Many other baking magazines cover cake decorating, cupcakes, cookies, etc... But there are not many that are aimed at reaching non-professionals and talk about the more sophisticated side of baking and pastry arts. Our goal is to dive deeper and help you learn more about these sophisticated, European recipes and techniques while still being easy to understand and approachable. Some may find this side of baking to be intimidating, but we hope that with the tips we give you in the articles, in addition to the videos and tutorials of this website, we can show you how enjoyable it can be!
The creator of "Mix it Up" Magazine, Joy Hanneman, was interested in cake decorating and baking since she was little. Upon graduating high school she attended Virginia Western Community College to become certified in baking and pastry arts. During the year-long program, Joy fell in love with European pastry arts and the intricacies of baking. While she enjoys cake decorating, she wanted to create a magazine to share with others the more elaborate kinds of baking and pastry arts, from French macarons to Hungarian tortes and Italian breads.
